Description
Design Creatures. Then Learn How to Bring Them to Life.
Join Terryl Whitlatch and Aaron Blaise for our very first 4-day in-person Creature Design Boot Camp in Orlando, Florida.
4-Day In-Person Event
Orlando, Florida
Hotel & Lunch Included
Creature Design Boot Camp
A hands-on in-person workshop focused on designing believable, imaginative creatures for film and animation, then learning how to simplify those designs so they can move.
This special boot camp brings together two sides of the creature design process. First, Terryl Whitlatch will teach how she approaches creating creatures that feel believable, functional, and imaginative. Then Aaron Blaise will show how he takes a creature design and thinks about simplifying it for animation.
This is our first in-person boot camp focused entirely on creature design.
You will explore how creatures are designed, developed, refined, and prepared to move on screen.
The event takes place in Orlando, Florida, right across the street from the Universal Studios Florida theme parks. Hotel accommodations and lunch are included. As the guest, you are responsible for your transportation to the Orlando area.

What You’ll Learn
Over the course of the boot camp, you will study creature design from both a design and animation point of view. The goal is to help you think more clearly about how creatures are built, how they function, and how they can come alive for an audience.
How to create believable and imaginative creatures for film, animation, illustration, and visual development.
How anatomy, structure, proportion, and movement influence the believability of a creature.
How to make choices that support character, story, function, personality, and appeal.
How Aaron thinks about simplifying a creature design so it can be animated and made to move clearly.
Guided drawing, design, and development work throughout the workshop.
A look at how experienced artists think through problems, revise ideas, and push a design further.
Two Sides of the Process.
This boot camp is designed to show both sides of creature creation: first designing the creature, then thinking about how that design could be brought to life through animation.
Who This Boot Camp Is For
- Creature designers who want to strengthen their process
- Animators who want to better understand design, structure, and movement
