Wonderful course. Just finished it and highly recommend it to anyone. It is full of insights and tips and was so much fun. Tim Hodge is an amazing teacher. The lessons are fairly easy to follow (even as a beginner, though it took me longer than Tim :D), he explains everything clearly and he is easy to listen to.

Tim Hodge’s tutorial on drawing cartoon animals is a true treasure for beginners! His clear explanations and simple approach make learning a breeze.
As a novice interested in cartoon art, I found Tim’s guidance incredibly approachable. He breaks down complex ideas into easy steps and patiently ensures you grasp each concept before moving on.
Tim’s own illustrations used for demonstrations add a personal touch to the lessons, making it feel like you’re getting one-on-one guidance. The variety of animals covered is well-balanced, allowing practice with different shapes and expressions.
For both novices and those with some artistic background, Tim’s tutorial is an invaluable resource to refine cartooning skills. It’s evident he’s dedicated to making this tutorial effective and user-friendly.
Highly recommended for a delightful journey into drawing cartoon animals!!
Would love to see one on how to draw cartoon backgrounds!

It’s an interesting course.
The main value of the course is to follow along as Tim Hodge draws and follow his process.
He gives a few interesting drawing tips, such as avoid tangents, create a 3D effect with contour lines.
Beside that I would have wished he would have made more of an effort to actually explain how to draw in his style, and conceptualize how he arrives to draw this way, how he knows where to place the line, how to visualize a character. Tim Hodge talked a lot about drawing simple shapes in perspective, such as viewing a cylinder from one side makes it look square, and viewing it from the other side makes it look circle shaped. He repeated that self-evident point a lot. But I was missing more complex and articulated explanations on how he arrives to draw animals in the beautiful Disney cartoon style.

This was awesome. I fell in love with “the gang” by Aaron and tried to teach myself but didn’t really succeed.
Then I discovered this and by extension Tim. Had the thumbnail been of cats or dogs would have watched it much earlier. Better late than never. This helped me so very much! Thanks :)

Good so far but I have to agree with the earlier review that the edit probably needs another pass with far less emphasis on the shot of Tim and far far more maintaining focus on the subject matter in hand. It’s great to see him every now and again and his delivery is really lovely but when drawing along with the video it quickly becomes frustrating that the shot is back on him and holds there far too long…

Tim is a great instructor. I enjoyed the lessons. Some straightforward tips that he provided during these courses have helped me significantly, including avoiding tangents, contour lines, and watching the silhouette of the overall drawing. Thank you!

I just concluded this course and I am already feeling nostalgic.
I’ve really enjoyed every lesson. And it has been almost addictive to go from one lesson to the other.
I’ve been able to perform every single drawing. I still feel super stiff to create my own characters, hopefully that will change.
What I enjoyed most is that Tim gives us a lot of information while we follow his strokes. About the drawing tools ( paper, pencils, erasers, brushes, markers…) He helped us understand how to create volume from simple lines (which one goes in front of the others, or why made them thick or thin). Also to always consider anatomy even with funny foreshortenings. OMG lots and lots of info without missing the fun.
I was also excited to watch the time laps drawings. I am currently experimenting with digital drawing for the first time in my life. Actually for the dinosaur lesson I used only my iPad tools. To watch those baby goats arise on the screen with Tim’s strokes brought tears to my eyes! Really.
Thank you Tim!!! You are an amazing illustrator and a wonderful teacher!!

Wonderful course,
Tim taught me a lot. Re-did a couple of his lessons more than once, very good practise!
Thanks for the good work, and please continue :-D!

I love the course and all the chapters I have seen so far. The only suggestion I would like to make is about the camera shifting so often between Tim’s face and the sketchbook. I would wish it wouldn’t shift so much if it isn’t necessary because at some point he’s drawing and we are only seeing his face instead of what he draws. That’s all. For the rest, I highly recommend it.

This is a very solid course That was was actually able to watch with my 1o yearly daughter. Its well narrated and informative. A mix of stuff for vets and new artists. I have always struggled with animals and Tim Hodge has always has a simple and effective approach to making animals more of a thing I can understand. Its a great intro before Aarons later more in depth courses. The thing I liked most about this though is that you learn other things you might not expect. For example Hodge has a fun water color style, I learned a thing or two watching his application of the paint.. Its very much a storyboarder’s fine art. This is the kind of stuff you happen across in a studio and ask the artist to paint you once for your office. Great stuff and again fun to watch.

This was excellent course. Well broken down. I believe this course would be excellent for all levels of artist, even beginners. And it was very helpful and I would highly recommend it.

I have tried drawing cartoon animals before, but this took me to another level. After taking this course, I was able to host a table at our local animal shelter’s fund raiser, and sell cartoon portraits of pets to benefit the shelter. I’m not great…but this course helped me be so much better than I was.

Two words: OH WOW!!! Tim Hodge is a great teacher and his love for art shows up through out the video tutorials, especially when he is doing the facial expressions!! :)
I especially loved his dinosaur tutorial. I still haven’t been able to put my finger on why, but for some reason the dinosaur drawing makes me laugh. super fun!!
I would highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in learning how to draw cool cartoon animals may they be a professional artist or a hobbyist!
Thanks much Tim for sharing your decades of experience and knowledge with us!
