Cecil The Lion Portrait & Time Lapse Video

Like many people around the world, I was extremely moved by the recent tragedy surrounding the hunting and killing of the beloved lion know as Cecil. (Read More) – As you may be able to tell I am a HUGE animal lover and it drives me crazy when I see these beautiful creatures destroyed for no good reason. In fact, I’ve decided to get personally involved and hopefully our efforts can help educate people and prevent these horrible things from happening in the future.

As some of you may also know I was one of the animators on “The Lion King” – When I heard the news about Cecil I got inspired to create a tribute image. It’s not much but hopefully it will make people think.

I also created a time lapse video of the creation of this image which you can see below:

UPDATE: 8/5/2015

WOW! I’ve been absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the attention this image has received. The Cecil image and video have been reported on around the globe. It’s been picked up by sites such as  The Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, MTV News, Entertainment Weekly, The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Times, The LA Times, USA Today and many more!

I’ve been inundated with requests to offer prints of the image as well. So I am pleased to announce that I am now able to offer two versions of the image as  museum quality poster prints. There is a version with and w/o the text.

Furthermore, I am pleased to announce that 100% of the profits from the sale of these images will be donated to WildCRU
– The organization that was studying and protecting Cecil and his pride.

Thank you everyone for your your amazing support and please consider supporting conservation efforts even if it’s not through my site.

  1. What a magnificent creature Cecil was. A head of the household protecting & caring for his family. Until an idiot with a demented stupid mind comes along & inflicted a long painful death on Cecil. Cecil must be thinking: Who will take care of my family when I’m gone? Can someone help me, I’m in agony? Why is this happening?
Sadly, an idiot with a demented mind wants to chop Cecil’s head off & hang it in his house. This idiot has a sick pride collection. He has no regards for an animals’ life. Animals were placed here by God for a purpose.
When I read about Cecil’s death, I thought about Isis who has no regards for a life also.
Thank you Aaron for making these very beautiful poster in memory of Cecil.

  2. It seems that some humans are determined to not learn from past mistakes with the recent killing of Xanda, Cecil’s son. I attended a protest in London against caged hunting with my son as we wanted to help raise awareness and it was refreshing to see so many people there, passionate about the planet’s wildlife. Anything that helps educate the ignorant is a step in the right direction and your artwork must surely make people stop & reflect on what beautiful creatures are being destroyed for sport. On a lighter note, thank you for the incredible educational tutorials, the Cintiq recommendation – it’s my favourite all time purchase, and for making art an affordable skill to learn! I am having so much fun & can hardly wait to get home from work to start a new tutorial, who cares about sleep deprivation!
