Drawing & Painting Costumed Figures

Lessons
02 Zig Zag Folds
Identify the characteristic diamond shapes in tubular pieces of fabric, like a sleeve, to draw a zig-zag line that feels organic.
03 Spiral Folds
Apply the zigzag forms you did before on a different way of bunching the fabric. Identify and create a pattern.
04 Diaper Folds
Analize folds that happen when you have two points that are held together.
05 Drop Folds
Follow the studies on two different folds originated by one tension point.
06 Half Lock Folds
Express abrupt change of direction in a tubular form of fabric, like in sleeves and pants.
07 Inert Folds
Study the folds in fabric without any tension. Recap what you have learned so far.
08 Two Minute Gesture Sketches
Get your timer ready and perform quick sketches to warm up. Be loose and avoid focusing your attention on small areas but see the picture as a whole.
09 Five Minute Gesture Sketches
Work on more elaborated sketches looking at proportions, shapes and some shades. Keep them nice and simple.
10 Ten Minute Gesture Sketches
Aaron explains how to use your time for this exercises to take advantage of your previous warm up.
11 Long Pose
Start applying everything you have learned in a more detailed study of fabric folds.
12 Watercolor Demo
Explore Aaron’s watercolor approach on a big format. Start working with lights, add shades and pull highlights at the end.
13 Oil Painting
Go from sketching to get an oil painting while discover tips to keep the proportions in a larger format.
14 Folds in Acrylic
Scout a traditional technique and build most of your composition from darker to lighter tones.
15 Charcoal Demo
